hollladays
Well its almost that time of year! Christmas eve has officially made its way here. And to honor that I am posting a song, but its not a Christmas song. But it has some Christmas themes going on, love! Either way I do love this song and it reminds me of my time in South Africa, and as the year comes to a close that's all I can think about since this time last year I was getting ready to go there. It was a amazing trip and it has been a amazing year. But before I get all sentimental about the new year I do want to say Merry Christmas! The holidays can be stressful I witnessed my mom run around like a chicken with her head cut off today trying to make everyone happy this holiday. She finally said at the end of the day Christmas is one intense holiday, so much pressure. She is right people put too much pressure on themselves to make the holidays perfect. But its impossible to do everything so you might as well do as much as you can and spend the rest of your time enjoying yourself. So my advice fuck the ham, relax and enjoy yourself! Happy HolidAYS:)

Tools to Survive Exams
Its the wonderful time of year when I am completely swamped in work. Luckily I have only one more exam to go so the end is almost here. But in order to get through these past two weeks I posted some essential things to help me through the struggle!
The Sartorialist is one of my favorite fashion blogs, I check it out to look at how people are dressing for winter. My goal every winter is to try and look cute yet still be warm, but I always end up looking like a hobo! Either way this site is a great for procrastination, since it gets uploaded frequently but not too much that you obsess over it.
These two fine ladies help me start my day right. Katie lee and Hoda Kotb on the today show at 10 am, they are always already tipsy by the time I wake up. They crack me up with their celebrity guests, food and wine segment, and how they equally make fun of one another throughout the show.
This hip hop and rock collaborate has been what I have been listening during finals. Damon Dash got the Black keys along with Jim Jones, Mos Def, Raekwon, Pharoache Monch, NOE, Billy Danze, Nicole Wray, the list goes on if you can believe it! Its a amazing collaboration of classic hip hop with a bluesy type of rock.
Last but certainly not least, Rooibos tea. I feel in love with Rooibos tea in South Africa, Rooibos is the Afrikaans work for red bush. Rooibos tea has a high level of antioxidants and assist with nervous tension, allergies and digestive problems. It also tastes amazing especially the Chai yogi tea.
I will soon be out of Jersey and returning home for the winter break! I cannot wait and I will be able to post more :)

Grey spot
Above is two pictures of my aunt. Doesn't she have the most amazing hair! A while ago I posted about black woman's hair and whether they chose to go natural or not. When I talked to my aunt this week she told me about how her friends will burn, dye, and fry their hair to make it appear a certain way. In my post before I didn't even consider older women in the struggles they face. Most women are terrfied of going grey every time they see a hair they go to the salon and get rid of it. When thinking about the things black women already do for there hair to be straight. Buying weaves that cost as much as a car payment or putting chemicals in it until their hair doesn't grow back at all. By the time they have grey hair they are doing all these things along with dying their hair. Now I don't have grey hair so its hard for me to justify to keep it.But I look at my aunts beautiful grey locks. Not only does she choose to go natural she chooses to keep her hair the color its suppose to be. With that she has healthy hair that continues to grow. She even is creative and added silver beads to style it. I know not eveyone wants to have locks or an Afro but I encourage women to go natural at some point in their life. Whether it be through hair style or hair color, no matter the age give. So that by the time you are my aunts age, you will still have healthy hair.
I hope everyone had a amazing Thanksgiving :)

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
YAY! I got kanye's new album today. So far I am feeling it. Damn he has a sick list of featured artist on this album that include Jay Z, Kid Cudi, Bon Iver, Pusha T, John Legend, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, and a little bit of some Elton John! I will give a better review of this album soon, I got at least give it a weeks worth of listening to say something legitimate about it. Though Monster and Power are already amazing. I am excited for Kanye, despite his controversial actions in his personal life I have loved all of his albums from College Dropout to 808 and Heartbreak. Also I am curious peoples opinions of the new album so what does everyone think?

I AM BACK
After a long hiatus I am ready to start my blog up again. I think its obvious I have been absent, but I am ready to give this significant time. I have really missed blogging, and people tell me they like what I put on here. So I will bring it back! For me and you. So to start things off I wanted to say HELLO! I am back in the states, and back in school. Fells good, but I miss South Africa everyday, no lie. But I am having new adventures now, including my life post graduation. Its so weird to think I am at that point in my life. Where I am a grown up? Nope that doesn't even sound like me, I am a young adult. Still sounds weird... I guess I am just young, that sounds fine for right now. I am trying to figure out the future, and what I want to do with myself. Its weird, but everyone goes through it and I am trying to embrace the present and actively think about my future.
Aside from all that boring crap about the future I thought my first post back would be on music. I love all music but due to the fact that my roommate has the most melancholy.indie. itunes playlist eva! I have started listening to Bon Iver and Beach house, photos above! I know not the newest music, but I am really getting into them now! If you enjoy Grizzly Bear and Iron and Wine, you will be a fan. And for twilight lover tweens, Bon Iver and St. Vincent did a song for the New Moon soundtrack. So if you are in your house, sipping on some Rooibos tea, in your long underwear, listen to these artist. Its perfect! My favorite songs right now are Bon Iver- SKINNY LOVE and CREATURE FEAR then for beach house-ZEBRA.
I also recently made a mix for a reunion I had for my friends in South Africa, I think I will share the playlist in a later post since it was a hit. Also I was some South African rap I wanna share too. Along with many other things that don't involve music too! So I hope people haven't lost hope in me, I am back I promise!
PEACE, LOVE, and HAIR GREASE!

Cape Town has my heart
So I unfortunately failed at blogging when I was abroad which is a shame because I really wanted to keep an online journal for everyone from home. But the internet in Cape Town is not the best and I literally paid for every minute I spent online. As much as I wanted to keep up gold feather I failed and spent money to survive, I think that's fair enough. But after five months I am home, and I had the best time of my life living in Cape Town. I actually LIVED in Cape Town and felt as though that was my home for the time I was there. Its an amazing city, the people are wonderful, and I have never lived in a more beautiful place. I am gonna post below some of my favorite photographs I took during my time in South Africa :)

love the hair
Since being in Cape Town I have experienced a ton of things that stand out to me and get me thinking being submerged into this completely different culture. So far black hair has really caught my eye living in this new city and how woman in particular choose to wear there hair. I have noticed compared to America more young black women here choose to go natural. I have a seen tons of Afros and dreads more than perms and relaxed hair styles. My friend sent me this site showing different black hair styles that this blogger photographs I think mainly in New York. I thought it was really interesting since I wonder if having natural hair styles for black people has become a trend around the world and not just in the US. Especially since a couple years ago it seemed like no one was going natural and braids or relaxed hair was more popular. I wonder why now do more people choose to go natural? Maybe since in recent media the discussion of black hair has become more prevalent with Chris Rocks movie and how Michele Obama chooses to wear her hair along with her daughters. What ever the case may be the effects go beyond the US and can be seen in Cape Town as well too.
Above is a link to the cite click on the photo definitely check it out its pretty awesome.
