LIFE

Did you know that you can search millions of photos from the LIFE photo archive on google? With just one search you can look at photos from the 1750s to today many of the photos which were never published at all. They had not been available for viewing until now. All you have to do is add "source:life" to any google search and it will search only the LIFE archive. It's amazing like a huge photography gallery of history right on your computer. Below are some photos that I particularly enjoyed. 

It was hard for me to choose just one of the Marilyn Monroe photos. I found a whole collection of this photo shoot of her in the woods that I had never seen. She looks so young and innocent but already classically beautiful. You can also see how she has influenced some young starlets today with her style cough Lana Del Rey. 

For the newspaper I take a lot of sports photos at the local high school games. I have a new found respect for sports photographers. Not only is it challenging to keep up the pace of the game but it is difficult to have an original sports photo that looks different. Thats why I love this photo above of Wilt Chamberlain in 1956. The lightening on the court and their long skinny legs makes for an interesting photo. 

I was just thinking the other day I wish there were still more drive in movies around. Why did that ever stop being an American pass time? Probably because everything is in 4D :) This photo was taken in 1948. 

This is from the Taj Mahal in 1967. I don't know who the man is but I really loved the colors, the way he is viewing the Taj Mahal and his beard.

I loved looking at the photos from Woodstock. So many young, muddy and happy naked people! You really get the sense that this music festival in 1969 was a historical moment of total freedom for that generation.   

Do I even need to say why this is an amazing photo of Langston Hughes? 

Above are four South African children playing in the streets of District 6 in 1946. I learned a lot about District 6 through my travels in Cape Town and in Pan African Studies classes. From what I heard it was an amazing place to live. Its sad that District 6 is no longer a place but an empty plot of land in Cape Town. If you travel to Cape Town visit the District 6 museum.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Stokely Carmichael participating in a voter registration march in 1966. Once again imagine being around during this time period. They were tough tough times for African Americans but just to be around the leaders of the Civil Rights Movement alone would make me want to be around then at least for a day. Also Dr. Kings sunglasses are awesome.  

There are so many more I want to share but this post will get too long. But please take a moment to get lost in this photo archive its a great way to be transported into a different life... pun intended.

Shawty!

This weekend will be shawty filled for me. I am seeing so many of my best friends! So since I am seeing my shawties I thought I would share a photo of this shawty below. You may remember Jesse Williams from Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. I definitely do and if I saw this shawty in real life I would probably pass out. Also I really like when guys wear bean boots or timbs :) Happy weekend!

childhood dreams

I thought this movie was amazing when I was a kid. The Neverending Story was like a dream. It didn't make a lot of sense, was pretty scary and really beautiful. When I saw this post on le projet d'amour about fantasy childhood movies I fell in love with this blog. Also her film reviews are the indie film guide I have been waiting for so many great movie suggestions. I watched the movie Submarine the other night. It was kind of like the British version of Youth in Revolt. 

Also this new Beach House song :) 

New New

I finally got my hair done for the first time in three years. Turning Heads in Harlem definitely took care of my locs. I went in there looking like a wild woman came out looking like a nubian princess, and quite frankly isn't that what we all want when we go to the salon? Well it is for me! I also went to the screening of Death in the Family a short film produced by my friend Zainab Ali. At the end of the film I got to see my name in the credits as production assistant. I was responsible for the film's Facebook page! Lastly, for new careers I also will be DJing at The Lantern Inn in Wassaic, NY. After successfully Djing a 50th birthday party there they welcomed me back to DJ there monthly. I am still in shock of how lucky I am to be able to be apart of an amazing film and bring some night life to the local community! Below are some things that I wanted to share before February is officially over. Just some things that I have been enjoying recently. Happy leap day!

I have been enjoying the Quite Continental Charm School. All throughout February Quite Continental and guest bloggers gave tips on how to live a classy yet fabulous life. I personally have even been taking some tips to heart by wearing perfume and finally making a hair appointment!

Solange Knowles style transformation blows me away. I love her vibe she seems to just radiate laid back, talented and cool. She embodies what I want my more mature style to look like, basically can I be her when I grow up! Her daily outfits are being shown on British Vogue for Today I'm wearing all throughout February. So since today is the last day you can marvel over all 29 outfits! Also her blog is pretty awesome too.   

I am obsessed with breakfast food. I love everything about it. I also am obsessed with looking at the BKFST. There is a odd sensation when looking at delicious food you cant eat. 

I have really been enjoying Zooey Deschanel show on fox New Girl. I definitely had my doubts at first but it exceeded my expectation and is pretty funny. Deschanel was on SNL a few weeks back and I loved this skit above. Kristen Wiig doing Bjork is too good. 

hula hooping all the time

This past weekend was very fun my partner in crime Nedjra came to visit. She convinced me to have more photos of my daily hula hooping. I like these photos because I look kinda silly with my bright orange socks. I also have below my first ever video of me hula hooping on my blog. OMG! Sorry I take so long to pick a song in the beginning :)  I need to do a progressional video to show my improvement since last summer. I am excited for spring I am going to start my hula hooping classes up again in Kent. I am just waiting for the weather to get a little warmer!

Feel Good

I had a great weekend filled with old friends and new friends along with lots of good food. I also finally got a new iphone, I am addicted to it already. But last week my friend Adam provided me with some much needed new tunes. So I have some new music to share that I have been playing constantly. I don't know much about these artist but their beats are addicting and the lyrics are relatable and understandable, usually two main qualities I like when it comes to hip hop. Enjoy!
